Clyde Musick Obituary

Mr. Clyde Baker Musick, age 90, of Rome, died Sunday March 22, 2015 in a local hospital after a sudden and brief illness.



He was born December 4, 1924 in Cleveland, Virginia, the oldest son of the late Claude and Lacy Combs Musick. He graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia in 1943. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946.



He married Lorene Green in December of 1946 and left shortly thereafter for Morgantown, West Virginia to attend West Virginia University on the GI bill. He graduated with honors from the College of Engineering of WVU in 1951. Upon graduation he and his family moved to Pittsfield, MA to take a job with General Electric as an electrical engineer. In 1954 he was transferred to the GE Medium Transformer plant in Rome, Georgia.



He played adult league fast pitch softball and basketball for GEAA in the late 1950's. He later coached little league and pony league baseball in Rome from 1960 until 1964 and was involved with the East Rome High School booster club.



Clyde retired from GE in 1984. In 1985, he began volunteering for the AARP Foundation Tax Aide services at the library helping prepare income taxes for those 60 years old and older. He continued to volunteer for this organization until March, shortly before his illness. He was a member of the First Assembly of God since 1971 where he served as treasurer for 20 plus years.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lorene Musick, a brother, Joe Musick and an older sister, Ruby Musick.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Musick Mabe of Tazewell, Virginia; two sons, Jerry (Evelyn Slye) Musick of Stafford, Virginia and Clyde (Jan Jennings) Musick of Rome; two daughters, Delores Brannon of Resaca, Georgia and Janice (Adrian) Carney of Rome and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren including two great grandchildren to be born in August of 2015 and one great great grandson to be born in April of 2015. He is also survived by several nieces.



Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at First Assembly of God. The body will lay in-state from 10am until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens, with full military graveside rites conducted by Shanklin-Attaway Post Five Honor Guard of the American Legion.



The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm Wednesday at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue Rome, GA.



Pallbearers include Alton Kinsey, Nick Kinsey and grandsons Jacob Musick, Matt Carney, Brent Carney, Richard Musick, Parnick Spencer Musick and Clay Kirkland.



In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to First Assembly of God, 105 Broadus Road NE, Rome Georgia 30161.
