Hugh Hubbard Obituary

Hugh Lee Hubbard, age 83, of Rome passed away Tuesday morning October 28, 2014 at his residence.



Mr. Hubbard was born in Rome September 30, 1931 a son of the late Jewel Mae Manning Hubbard and Walter Thomas Hubbard, Sr. He had been a resident of Rome most of his life and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hubbard retired from the United States Postal Service after 31 years. He was a member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church, the National Association of Letter Carriers, Shanklin - Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion, and the National and local (Billy Freeman Chapter) Korean War Veterans Association. Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Pauline Climer Hall, and two brothers Robert Elmer Hubbard and Walter Thomas Hubbard III. His happiest times were the birth of his children and the years spent at their cabin in Ellijay.



Survivors include his wife Barbara Hancock Hubbard, to whom he was married December 11, 1957; two daughters and sons in law Lea Ann and Richard Edwards of Rome and Anita and Jeff Pope of Silver Creek. Brother

F.E. (Gene) Hubbard of Stapleton, GA ; Grandchildren Cody, Matthew, Joshua, and William Edwards, Kiersten Simpson, Airman Huston and Lindsey Trey Pope and a great grandchild Colton Edwards also survive.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Reverend Alan Fuller, Chaplain of Heyman Hospice officiating. Due to his grandson's military obligation,Airman Huston Pope will be absent and his longtime friend Sarah Lively will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with the Honor Guard of Shanklin - Attaway Post 5 American Legion providing military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 until 9 P.M and at other hours may be contacted at the residence of a daughter Lea Ann Edwards 104 Southern Grace Place.



Active pallbearers include Cody Edwards, Doug Simpson, Kiersten Simpson, Brent Hubbard, Michael Oswalt, and Randolph Oswalt. Honorary pallbearers are Charles, Wendell, and Donald Thacker, Richard Statham, and Charles Browder.
