Jimmy Lamar Wheat, age 64, passed away Saturday evening September 17, 2016.
A native of Whitfield County, GA Jimmy was born January 5, 1952 son of the late H.L. Wheat and Myrtle Wade Wheat . He had been a resident of Rome most of his life and was employed by Martin's Auto Parts for 18 years. He retired from Martin- Marietta Rock Quarry. He was a member of the Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church. Jimmy was a jokester who loved life and would break the somber spirit at any gathering. He loved old cars, Big Macs, mechanical work, and gardening. More than anything else he loved his family and would do anything to provide for and protect them. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by two brothers Frank and Wesley Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Kinsey Wheat, to whom he was married April 20, 1973; son Shaun Wheat; daughters Nicole Medlock and Michelle Pope; brother Charles Wheat and sisters Frances,Carolyn Roden, Ruth Best, and Charlotte Lindsey. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Reverend Randy Hudgins officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2 PM. Pallbearers are Chris Medlock, Jackie Pope, Brandon Pope, Chase Pope, Caleb Waits, Blake Waites, Austin Waits, and Dawson Waits.
