Joella Dew Snead Black (March 11, 1928 - March 19, 2016)
Joella (Dew) Snead Black, 88, Lombardy Way, died early Saturday afternoon at Floyd Medical Center following an illness of several years. She had been a patient at Winthrop Health & Rehab for the last five years. Mrs. Black was born in Curryville, Floyd County, Georgia on Mar 11, 1928, daughter of the late Dewitt Talmadge and Eunice (Darr) Dew. She had been a resident of Floyd County, GA throughout her entire life. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Oliver Snead, (1916-1977) to whom she was married in Rome on 22 Dec 1945. Mrs. Black was married to the late Carl Franklin Black (1922-2000) on 10 June 1990. Mrs. Black attended the Everett Springs School and Berry School for girls. She was a retiree from Pepperell Mfg Company of Lindale where she was employed in the Weave Room for over 35 years. Mrs. Black was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Everett Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Black was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Forrest Dew (1925-2015); by one sister, Paulanna (Dew) Harris (1923-1979); by one son, David Alan Snead (1952-2009); by one granddaughter, Marquita Pegg (1970-2005); and by one great-grandson, Christopher Pegg (1994-2005).
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Daisy Dew Rhinehart of Rome; a son, Kenneth Snead (wife Susan) of Armuchee; four daughters, Sheryl Snead Sullins of Rome, Ruth Snead Watters (husband Doug) of Calhoun, Teresa Snead McLocklin (husband Boyd) of Statham, and Melanie Snead Williams (husband Barry) of Bremen; nine nephews/nieces; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Black was a loving mother and all of her family will miss her deeply.
Mrs. Black loved to travel, especially enjoying her trips to the Holy Land. She loved sewing and especially enjoyed quilting having produced many beautiful handmade quilts. Mrs. Black loved her little dogs, having had several to keep her company over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. Tuesday, March 22 in the chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home with the Rev. Micah J. Pritchett Officiating and with Barry Williams presenting the Eulogy. Interment will be in Floyd Memorial Gardens, Rome.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 12:00-02:00PM Tuesday. At other times the family may be contacted at Mrs. Black's home.
