Majel McAbee, age 80, died Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Riverside County. California.
A native of Chillicothe , Ohio Mrs. McAbee was born April 8, 1936. Her parents were Virgil and Grace Cochenour. She had been a resident of Rome for 40 years. Prior to retirement from Lindale Mills, she worked as a cashier with Big Lots. Mrs. McAbee attended Coosa Valley Technical College where she studied carpentry and cabinetmaking. While there, she assisted in the remodeling and renovation of the Rome Area History Museum. Mrs. McAbee was a two time cancer survivor, and her gentle spirit made her the most loved person her family ever knew.She raised five children by her self and her passions were Faith, Family, Cooking, Gardening, and Quilting.Mrs. McAbee was a member of the West Rome Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis McAbee , Jr January 24, 2015 and by two brothers Wilbur and Charlie..
Mrs. McAbee is survived by her sons Estill (Dan) Thomas and Mark Thomas; daughters April Lee, Mari-Lynn Boerema, and Dollie Kelly; Twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Ten brothers and sisters also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Monday at West Rome Baptist Church with Reverend Jarrod Roberts and Ken Oates officiating. Mrs. McAbee will be cremated following the service, then interred in Flat Rock, Michigan. The family will receive friends from 12PM until the service hour.
