Margaret Peek Obituary
Mrs. Margaret Athaline Busby Peek, age 93, of Rome, Georgia, died Monday, February 16, 2015.
Mrs. Peek was born in Piedmont, Alabama, on August 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Claude Busby and Lula Trammel Busby. She founded Peek's Convalescent Center in 1957, and later, along with family, purchased Fifth Avenue Nursing Home in 1972. She was honored by the Georgia Nursing Home Association for being a pioneer in the nursing home industry. She was a member of the first class to take the Georgia Nursing Home Administrator's licensing exam and passed on her first attempt. Margaret completed the dietary management certification program at Berry College, attended LPN school, and became a certified nursing assistant.In November, 1999, she was awarded the nursing assistant award in Washington, D. C. for the longest years of service. She was a member of North Rome Church of God.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her former husband, Ewell Peek, her brothers, Earl, Tommy, Leo, and Harvey Busby, and her sister, Bessie Stone.
Survivors include a son, Clark Peek (Gail), a daughter, Sharron Tarvin (Roger), and an adopted son, Herbert Long (Gail); a grandson, Steve Peek; a granddaughter, Kim Owens (Andy); step-grandsons, Richard Brown and Wayne Williams; and a great-granddaughter, Laura Owens.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 21, at North Rome Church of God, with officiating. Interment will follow in North View Cemetery in Cedartown, The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday February 20, 2015 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.
Pallbearers will be Richard Brown, Gary Garner, Jeff Priest, Billy Rudd, Malcolm Talley, and Wayne Williams.
