Matilda Buffington Obituary
Mrs. Matilda McEntire Buffington, age 93, of Big Texas Valley, Rome, Ga. passed away Thursday morning, October 9, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Buffington was born in Floyd County Ga. on July 13, 1921, a daughter of the late William Oscar McEntire, and Cinda Rilla Couey McEntire. Mrs. Buffington was member of Antioch Baptist Church in Big Texas Valley. She had worked in the Child Care profession and was a homemaker. Mrs. Buffington enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking, and quilting. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Frances Marie Buffington; three sisters, Sarah McEntire, Lillian Countiss, and Thelma Smith; three brothers, Albert, Oscar, and Charlie McEntire.
Survivors include her husband of 76 years, Clarence D. "Tim" Buffington; three sons and daughters in laws, Jerry Buffington, and Pamela Purcell, Rome, Leonard and Alvadine Buffington, Rome, James and Gail Buffington, Rome; brother and sister in law, Donald and Pauline McEntire, Rome; 9 grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, October 13, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Stephens, Dr. Paul Camp, and Rev. Brian Butler, officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, in Big Texas Valley. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.
Mrs. Buffington will lie instate at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers include the following gentlemen and are asked to meet at the church by 2:30 P.M. on Monday, Jason Buffington, Derek Buffington, Adam Buffington, C.J. Evans, Scott Hays, Jimmy Buffington, and Chris Buffington.
Honorary pallbearers include nieces, nephews, and cousins.
