Quincy Bobo Obituary

Quincy Lamar "Bunky" Bobo, age 81, of Rome passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 in a local nursing home.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Bobo was born July 17, 1934 son of the late Alex and Myrtle Plemmons Bobo. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy aboard the carrier USS Phillipean Sea and prior to retirement, owned and operated Advance Auto Parts with his son Tony.He was a licensed sea captain and ran charter boats in Panacea , Florida. Bunky was NASCAR NHRA drag racing champion in 1966 and 1967. The Willys Hemi-Hurricane that he ran currently resides in the International Hall of Fame Museum in Talladega AL. He was also a champion dirt track racer. Bunky is in the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame and Old Drag Racers Hall of Fame. Mr. Bobo was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Barbara Bobo and his daughter Susan Bobo Sills, sister Lois Bobo and brother Frankie Bobo.

Survivors include his son Tony (Kay) Bobo, grandchildren Josey and T.J. (Erica) Bobo and Tiffany (Ryan) Evans, great grandchildren Connor Bobo and Faith and Brock Evans, and a sister Rachel McHan.


Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Monday in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Reverends Wayne Kines and Frank Madrie officiating. The Honor Guard of the Shanklin Attaway Post 5 American Legion will provide military honors. Interment will follow in the Bobo Family Cemetery on Cedartown Highway. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 2 until 3 PM at the funeral home.
