Russell Herrington Obituary

Herrington, Russell Arnette

Russell was born August 14, 1943 in Union, Mississippi and passed away on June 15, 2015 in Rome, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50years, Annette Horton Herrington, and predeceased by his parents, Dr. Raymond A. Herrington and Myrtle McNair Herrington, and brother, Danny Ray.

He is survived by his two children and their spouses: Robin (Kim) Herrington of Knoxville, Tennessee and Roman (Angela) Herrington of Plano, Texas. He is survived also by his four grandchildren: Emma, Ellis, Luke and Logan Herrington. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Shepherd and her husband Bruce of Weatherford, Texas and their children Hannah and Laura.

Raised in rural Mississippi to the son of a Southern Baptist pastor, Russell felt an early calling to full-time ministry. He graduated from high school in Goodman, Mississippi then attended Hinds Junior College before graduating from Mississippi College with a degree in Church Music. He received Master's degrees in Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Religious Education from Southern Seminary as well as a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Luther Rice Seminary. Before enrolling at Mississippi College, he met the love of his life, Annette Horton, at Temple Baptist Church. The two married June 25, 1965.

Russell served as minister of music at churches in Mississippi, Texas and Alabama. Russell and Annette served as music missionaries with the International Mission Board (IMB) for thirty-three years, serving in Costa Rica; Baptist Spanish Publishing House; and Mexico City, Mexico.

Since their retirement from the IMB in 2005, Russell and Annette called Rome, Georgia home. Russell served as minister of music at Dykes Creek Baptist Church for seven years and was a Gideon. He served over 50 years in Christian ministry in various capacities.

He will be remembered for his devotion to bringing the message of Christ's love through music. Russell also had a remarkable sense of humor that had an infectious quality to it - he made people smile when he came into the room.
