Sheilah Dill Obituary
Mrs. Sheilah Gay Dill, age 76, of Rome, entered Heaven's gates on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2017.
A native of Rome, Mrs. Dill was born April 27, 1941, daughter of the late Willard Wilson Burchfield and Lula Gaynelle Beck Burchfield. She was in the first graduating class (1959) of West Rome High School and was a cheerleader. Mrs. Dill was a 1963 graduate of Shorter College, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language Arts. She retired after 32 years of teaching in the Rome City and Floyd County Schools. She also taught at Darlington School, and Summerville Middle School. Mrs. Dill was preceded in death by a brother, John Burchfield.
Survivors include her husband, John Berry Dill; daughter April Dill Thornton; son-in-law Aubrey Thornton; granddaughters Ainslee Thornton and Abbie Thornton; sister Sharon Burchfield.
Mrs. Dill enjoyed writing poetry, drawing, and singing. She had a beautiful voice, and was a former member of the choir at West Rome Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church. She was also a former member of the Rome Doll Collectors Society and Shamrock Garden Club. Mrs. Dill had a passion for flowers and gardening. She loved to work outside in her yard, and enjoyed feeding the birds, chipmunks, and squirrels. She loved all animals, and adored her family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday, November 25, 2017 in the Chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Dr. Dale Levan officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 until 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Heyman Hospice of Rome, the Alzheimer's Association, or Fellowship Baptist Church.
