Weldon Walker, age 93, departed this life on Monday, June 29, 2015. Weldon was born September 13, 1921 to Ola Mae Rooks and J.W. (Johnny) Walker in Dutton, Alabama. Married to Lillian Tanner Walker for 61 1/2 years, he was the father of five.
Weldon served honorably with General George Patton's 7th Army in the European Theatre during World War II.
The Walkers lived in Lindale, Georgia many years where they were both employed at Pepperell Manufacturing. They later lived in Jeffersonville, Indiana where he worked in highway construction.
Weldon leaves to cherish his memory his children: Pat Walker Shetter (Paul), Silver Creek; Stanley Walker, Lindale; Mickey Walker (Joyous), Plainville; Cherry Walker, Rome; Tina Walker Sample (Bob), Charlestown, Indiana. He is also survived by a brother, W. E. Walker, Fort Oglethorpe and by a precious friend, Mrs. Renate Barlow, Rome. Seventeen grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren also survive.
Weldon loved to dance, especially with Renate (Renee), the Ginger Rogers to his Fred Astaire, and with his wife Lillian when they were younger. He learned to line dance in his later years and performed with the Dixie Stompers. Weldon also immensely enjoyed singing Karaoke with his son and faithful caregiver, Mickey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, and six brothers. Two grandchildren and a great grandchild also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday July 2, 2015 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home in West Rome, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 7:00 P.M. A graveside service, with Military Rites, will be conducted at a later date in Jeffersonville, Indiana at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, pray for Weldon's family, and consider a contribution in his honor to your home church or favorite charity.
