Willene Underwood Obituary

Mrs. Willene S. Underwood, 78, of Renaissance Marquis, 3128 Cedartown Highway, Rome, GA passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Underwood was born in Rome, Georgia on May 2, 1936 to the late Hadley and Mary O'Sheilds Sims.

Before declining health, Mrs. Underwood was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a member of the Rick & Margaret Mills Sunday School Class as well as a part of the Joy Makers Senior Group. She was a graduate of Rome High School in 1954 and enjoyed attending class reunions.

Mrs. Underwood enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Special times were at the Underwood Family Reunion and the 312th Air Police Squadron Reunion where they traveled all over the country. Although in her golden years life had it's limitations, she never let them stop her. She persevered and lived life to the fullest always looking forward to the next chapter and adventure. She was a very giving and loving person and had compassion for many charities whether helping a family in need or tornado victims from afar.

Mrs. Underwood is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Roy Underwood and daughter Beth Underwood, both of Rome. Another daughter, Pam (Mrs. Jim) Burnett and grandchildren Patrik and Maria Burnett of Rock Spring, Georgia. Other grandchildren include Jacob Burnett, his wife, Susan, and great grandchildren (twins) Chloe and McKinley Burnett of Ringgold, GA; another grandson, Scott Burnett and his wife Janel of Chickamauga, GA. Sister in laws, Becky (Ike) Sewell, Knoxville Tn; Joan (Gordon) Beard, Tallahassee, FL; Jean Underwood (Bobby) Draper, Calhoun, Ga; numerous of nieces and nephews.

Family will have visitation on Monday, September 15 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home, Rome, GA. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 16 at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Dale Levan, and Dr. Larry Draper officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the "Chloe & McKinley Whole Heart Fund" established to help with medical bills for great granddaughter, McKinley who was born with a critical heart condition (HLHS). Honorary pallbearers will be Rick and Margaret Mills, Sunday School Class, and the 312th Air Police Squadron.
