Clara Jeanette Kerce, age 84, of Chuilo Hills Nursing Home, formerly 2093 Morrison Campground Road, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2015 after a brief illness. Jeanette was born April 17, 1930 and lived her entire life in Floyd County. She was a lifelong resident of the Johnson School / Rock Store Community. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kerce Sr., to whom she was married to for 62 years and her parents, Charles T. Glenn and Janie Mae Price Glenn.
Mrs. Kerce was in the 1st graduating class of Johnson High School in 1947 where she was an excellent basketball player. She was also an active member of Mizpah United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and worked as a VBS volunteer. Jeanette was a homemaker while she raised her four children. She then worked at the Homestead Restaurant for 15 years until her retirement. Many may remember and recall that she was well known for her wonderful potato salad and peach cobbler.
She loved her faith in God, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.
Mrs. Kerce is survived by her brother, Charles "Jack" Glenn (Carolyn) of Covington, a sister Sara Jane Cannon (Paul) of Logansville. Three Sons; Fred Kerce Jr. (Ruth), Bradley Kerce (Cathy), Richard Kerce (Brig) all of Rome, and one daughter Susan Joiner (Ronnie) of Auburn, Ga. Three Grandsons; Matthew Kerce (Shira), Joshua Kerce, and Taylor Kerce. One Granddaughter; Clara Lyn Kerce and a great-grandson, Austin Kerce. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2pm until 4 pm at Mizpah United Methodist Church, located at 4055 Kingston Highway. A graveside service will immediately follow the receiving of friends at Mizpah United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mikel Garrett and Rev. Teresa Coleman will officiate the service.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Kerce, Joshua Kerce, Taylor Kerce, Bobby Potts, Scottie Hicks, and Dean Lewis. Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church at 3:30. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandson, Austin Kerce, and the members of East Floyd Lodge 728 where her husband and father were both members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Morrison Campground or Mizpah United Methodist Church
The Family also wishes to thank the nurses and workers at Chuilo Hills Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave Jeanette during her three year stay.
