John Ross (Johnny) McDaniel went to be with the Lord Monday, July 18, 2016. He was born August 28, 1944 to Sanford M. and Grace Lanelle McDaniel of Rome. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. A brother in law, Royce D. Wilson, of Kennesaw. He was born and raised in Celanese/Riverside and lived his entire life in Rome. He graduated from Model High School in 1962, and married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Nelson) McDaniel. He leaves behind a son, Stephen R. (Steve) McDaniel and his wife Sharron of Rome. A daughter Karen (Randy) Holder of Seagrove Beach, FL. Three wonderful granddaughters, "His Pride and Joy", Sarah, Anna, and Erin McDaniel. He was their "PawPaw"! Two sisters, Judy Wilson of Kennesaw, GA and Sandra (Ray) McCorkle of Hooks, TX. Several beloved nieces and nephews. Johnny (Mac) worked for Norfolk Southern Railway for 20 years. He was involved in a train accident which took the life of two friends and coworkers and forced his retirement in 1990. He was a devoted father, husband, coworker, and grandfather. He enjoyed talking with his friends about the good ol' days, antique car shows, traveling to the casino, and a winning scratch off. He had a devilish wit and always a good story. He was loved by many He was a man of few words with a big heart. He will be missed by many loved ones. A special thank you to all of the caregivers at Floyd Medical Center and The Kindred Hospital for their care and kindness.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday July 22, 2016 at Pine Log Cemetery, in Pine Log, with Rev. Marvin Jackson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until 1:00 PM on Firday at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.
