Joseph Madison Brown, Jr.

Joseph Madison Brown, Jr. was born on November 4, 1947 to Joseph M. Brown, Sr. and Edna Campbell Brown. He graduated from Darlington School in 1965 and went on to attend Georgia Tech until he entered the US. Army. Mr. Brown served 2 tours in Vietnam as a combat Huey helicopter pilot. During this time, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart (2), and The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and First-Class Honor Medal. He then went on to serve in the Army Reserves for 37 more years as a helicopter ambulance pilot. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the New Beginnings Group of the Triple L Club and was a friend of Bill W. for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Melissa D. Martin, his daughter: Kimberly Ann Brown Miller Reutgen (Corby), grandchildren: Katelyn Nicole Miller and Ryan Kourtis Miller, Step daughter: July Independence Martin DeSherlia (Luke), stepsister: Carol Burrage; other family survivors include Nancy Brown, and Cruz Carter; his dogs: Chop Chop, Scamp, and Piglet; special friends Steve and Sarah St. Clair, and Gene Tyner. Mr. Brown will be inurned at the Georgia National Cemetery on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 3:00 PM. Memorials may be made to PAWS, 99 North Avenue NE Rome, GA 30161. Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
