Joseph Ricks Obituary

Joseph Hunter Ricks, age 20, of Rome, was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with his family and friends. Born on November 20, 2000, Hunter came into this world with a smile on his face and compassion for others. Hunter was unexpectedly called home on June 19, 2021 but not before he lived every second of his dash.

Hunter was a boy scout and played football and wrestled for Model Middle and Model High School before graduating in 2019. He worked for Southeastern Freight lines, where he was nominated for and won several awards for always helping his coworkers and helping his department meet company goals. More recently Hunter started working for Smith Iron Works and was already considered a valued employee. Hunter loved his truck, cutting grass, tractors, and fishing, but more than anything, Hunter loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved God and always put him first, which was evident in the way he lived each day and loved those around him. Hunter was the best big brother to his two sisters and they looked up to him and considered him their hero. He just didn't have best friends, he had a circle of young men that considered each other brothers. Hunter's physical presence will be missed every day, but the impression he left on the hearts of others will live on forever.

Hunter is survived by his parents, Mark and Kendra Pope; his grandparents, Danny and Kathy Neeley, who played an integral part of his life. Hunter is also survived by his two sisters, Anna and Beth Pope, grandparents, Johnny and Patrice Ricks, Uncle Nathan Ricks (Jessie), numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles, and the best friends whom he considered brothers: Austin Angle, Rhett Metcalf, Jamie Stockton, Matthew Woodard, and Devin.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Bruce and Dr. Rodger Whorton officiating.
