Mrs. Martha Sue Garrett Lucas, age 87, of Rome passed away Thursday June 9, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Lucas was born May 22, 1929 in Floyd County a daughter of the late Fred Lee Garrett, and Nellie Lee McDermott Garrett. She was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church, but attended Wilkerson Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Lucas was retired from the Atlanta Journal Constitution after several years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. "Sonny" Lucas, Jr. several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her son, Fredy Lucas, Rome; daughters, Janet (Danny Lee) Mackey, Canton; Nellie Edith Goble, Talking Rock; sister, Rita Carolyn Wrye, Lakeland, Fl; grandchildren, Danielle, Misti, LeAnne, Rachel, Michael, Dustin Robbie and Emily, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday June 12, 2016 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ronnie Newberry, officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include the following gentlemen will serve has pallbearers, Dustin Lucas, Avery Benefield, David Kirkland, Randy Lacey, Andy King, and Blake Puckett.
Honorary pallbearers include, Danny Lee Mackey, Jim Poulos, and Robbie Lucas.
