Mrs. Mary Helen Stokes Byars, age 80, of Rome passed away Monday October 10, 2016.
Mrs. Byars was born May 11, 1936, in Gordon County, a daughter of the late Earl Stokes and Aileen Boswell Carter. She was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her step parents, Ollie Mae Tucker, Alvie Louis Carter, her estranged husband Louie Eugene Byars, Sr. brother, Billie Wesley Stokes, sister, Dixie Mae Stokes, three sons, Jimmy Byars, John Virgil Byars, III Bobby Ellis Byars, great grandsons, Christian Collins, Adam Jackson,
Survivors include, daughters, Debra (Don) Harris, Rome; Vickie Byars, Rome, son, Gene (Marlene Rogers) Byars, Niles Michigan; sisters in law, Charlie Stokes, Martha Stanfield, step sisters, Pat (Tony) Edwards, Faye Atkins, step brother, Marion Carter, Rome; 11 grandchildren, 32 great grandchilern, adopted daughter, Kay ( Jimmy) Miller, special friend, Glenn Trapp.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday October 14, 2016 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Micca Gilissipe, officiating. Interment will follow in Morningview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, GA. 30165.
