Annie Early Obituary

In Loving Memory of Annie Edwards Early

September 2, 1931 – December 4, 2025

There are certain women whose lives move like steady rivers through a community, carving quiet pathways of devotion and beauty that remain long after their footsteps fade. Such a woman was Annie Edwards Early of Rome, Georgia, who passed from this life on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the age of ninety-five. Her journey began in that same red-clay city on September 2, 1931, when she came into the world as a daughter of Charlie and Nancy Edwards, inheriting from them a spirit as enduring as the land itself.

Annie grew up between the folds of family, faith, and the everyday music of home. She learned early how to stitch grace into the fabric of ordinary days, and this gift became the signature of her life. In time, she married her beloved husband, Earl Early, and together they traveled the long road of shared years, weathering joys and sorrows side by side. She knew the ache of loss as well, having been predeceased by Earl; by her daughter, Beverly Messinger; by her parents, Charlie and Nancy Edwards; and by three brothers and three sisters whose memories lived warmly in her heart.

Yet Annie’s legacy continues in the lives that rise up like blossoms after rain. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Murphy; her six grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; and two sisters who carry the echo of childhood laughter and sisterly secrets between them. These are the ones who will feel her absence most keenly, and who will remember her by the gentle works of her hands and the quiet strength of her spirit.

Annie was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church, where her faith settled deep and sure, like a seed rooting itself in good soil. She worked as a seamstress at Champions, shaping garments with a patient precision that mirrored the way she shaped her life. She loved to quilt, sewing colors and stories into cloth the way a storyteller weaves truth into a tale. She adored books and held reading close, wandering through worlds both imagined and remembered. And she found joy in gardening, cultivating flowers with the same nurturing devotion she poured into her family. Her garden was not just a patch of earth but a testament to how beauty responds to a loving hand.

For all who knew her, Annie’s presence felt like a softly lit porch in the evening, steady and welcoming, a place where one could rest and remember what truly matters. A Graveside Service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:00PM. Rev. Barry McCullough will be officiating.
