Audrey Maxine Walters Sims, 79, of Rome, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Born on February 23, 1945, in the heart of Floyd County, Georgia, Maxine was the cherished daughter of the late Gordon and Frances Walters.

Maxine was the beloved wife of the late Clarence Jeffery Sims, a partnership that stood as a testament to deep love and devotion. She was also predeceased by her son, Jeffery Todd Sims, whose memory she carried with her always, as well as her dear sister, Carolyn Gail Jackson, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond.

Maxine’s heart lives on in the hearts of those who survive her, including her adored granddaughter, Aeryn Cottingham, and her two great-granddaughters, Leia Valencia and Reya Hernandez, who brought her endless joy and pride. Maxine was their matriarch, a source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love. She is also survived by her loving niece Wendy Chastain and her dear nephew Cass Jackson that showed her tremendous love and support.

Professionally, Maxine dedicated many years of service to Apria Healthcare Group, where her compassion and commitment to others left an indelible mark. Beyond her career, she was an active and proud member of the American Legion, contributing to her community with the same grace and warmth that she extended to her family and friends.

Maxine’s faith was her cornerstone, guiding her through life’s challenges and triumphs. A devoted member of the Baptist faith, she found peace and solace in her relationship with God, and her life was a reflection of her faith's principles of love, kindness, and generosity.

As Maxine's family prepares to celebrate her life, they have entrusted her final arrangements to Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Details of the service will be shared as plans are finalized to honor this extraordinary woman, whose presence touched the hearts of so many.

Though Maxine’s journey on earth has ended, her legacy of love, faith, and resilience lives on in those who were blessed to know her. She will forever be remembered for her grace, her laughter, and the quiet strength that carried her through the years.
