In Loving Memory of Mrs. Barbara Jean Wacaster Mullinax
September 29, 1940 – August 27, 2024
Mrs. Barbara Jean Wacaster Mullinax, age 83, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life well-lived. Born on September 29, 1940, to the late Donald E. Wacaster and the late Grace Hennon Wacaster, Barbara was a woman who embraced life with grace, strength, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Mullinax, with whom she shared many cherished years of marriage. Their love story was one of mutual respect, companionship, and deep affection, a bond that remained unbroken even in Ray’s passing. She also faced the heartache of losing her son, Tony Helton, and her brother, Paul Wacaster, both of whom she held close to her heart.
Barbara is survived by her devoted children, Mike Barclay (Sy) and Kaye Duncan (Tom), who were the pride and joy of her life. She was a loving and nurturing mother, always offering a listening ear, wise advice, and a comforting presence. Her grandchildren, Sarah Barclay, Carrie Barclay, Kacie Lovitt (Bruce), Lyndsie Duncan, Adam and Mallorie Duncan, her great grandchildren Nathan and Grayson, were the lights of her life. She delighted in watching them grow and thrive, and she passed down to them her love of nature, beauty, and the simple joys of life.
Barbara’s career spanned thirty-five dedicated years at Inland Paper Mill in Rome, Georgia, where she worked in the shipping department. Her colleagues remember her as a loyal, hardworking, and kind-hearted individual who took pride in her work and always went the extra mile to help others. Her work ethic and dedication were a reflection of the values she held dear.
A woman of many passions, Barbara had a profound love for music, which filled her home with melodies that resonated with joy and emotion. She found solace and happiness in her garden, where she nurtured a wide variety of flowers, each one a testament to her love for nature’s beauty. Barbara reveled in the vibrant colors of her garden, finding inspiration and peace in the blooms that surrounded her. Her appreciation for all colors extended beyond her garden; she saw beauty in every hue, and her life was a testament to the richness and diversity of the world around her.
To honor Barbara’s life, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will gather to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a woman who touched so many with her kindness, generosity, and spirit. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Duncan, Adam Smith, Bruce Lovitt, and Nathan Burdette, with Reverend William Towe officiating the service.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements, ensuring that Barbara’s final journey is handled with the dignity and care she so greatly deserves.
