Mr. Barry Alan Nelson, 63 years, departed this world on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Floyd Hospital. Born February 27, 1961, in Rome, Georgia, he was the treasured son of Monty Rufus Nelson and the late Judith Bone Nelson. To those who knew him, Barry was more than a man; he was a bastion of laughter, a beacon of kindness, and a soul ever eager to offer his heart.
Barry will be greeted into eternity by his dear mother, Judith Bone Nelson, his paternal grandparents, Rufus and Harriett Nelson, and his maternal grandparents, Guy and Jewel Bone.
Upon the sunsetting of his life Barry leaves his father, Monty Rufus Nelson; his sons, Ross Evan Nelson (Brittney), and Dustin Corey Nelson to uphold the strength and character of the family. His brother, Bradley Todd Nelson (Cynthia), and his sister, Melody Nelson Burke (Patrick), remain to carry forth his memory. The laughter of his grandchildren, Logan Nelson, Alora Nelson, Raven Nelson, and Kaiden Nelson, shall echo his spirit. His niece, Judith Diane Nelson, and nephews, Seth Nelson Burke, Brandon Fredrick Nelson, and Conner Nelson Radziwon, will forever remember the man he was.
Barry was a proud alumnus of West Rome High School, graduating with the Class of 1979. The call of duty led him to the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction. In the fullness of time, after welcoming his children into the world, Barry chose to plant his roots in Rome, dedicating his hands to the craft of the carpet industry.
In accordance with his wishes, Barry shall return to the earth as ash through the harmonious fires of cremation. The family will gather to receive friends and loved ones at Good Shepherd Funeral Home on the eve of Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the hour of 5:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 6:30 PM.
Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with these sacred arrangements.
