Barry Weems Obituary

In Loving Memory of Barry Lee Weems

October 31, 1956 - September 4, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry Lee Weems, age 67, of Rome, Georgia, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Born in Calhoun, Georgia, on October 31, 1956, to Donald Weems and the late Beatrice Hollingsworth, Barry’s life was one filled with adventure, passion, and deep love for family, friends, and the things that brought him joy.

Barry was a man who lived life with purpose and a steady sense of pride. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, embodying the honor, discipline, and courage that would define him throughout his life. His military service was a point of great pride, and he often reflected on the lessons learned during his time in uniform. Barry believed in hard work, loyalty, and standing up for what he believed was right—values he carried with him long after his military days were over.

Faith was an important part of Barry’s life. He was a devoted member of The World Ministry Group Church, where he found a strong sense of community and spiritual connection. His faith was his anchor, and he approached life with an unwavering trust in God’s plan, even when life took unexpected turns.

Though he had many passions, perhaps none were greater than his love for motorcycles. The open road called to him, and few things brought Barry as much peace as a long ride with the wind in his face and the hum of the engine beneath him.

An avid animal lover, Barry had a soft spot for the four-legged companions who brought him comfort and joy. His two beloved cats were more than just pets; they were his trusted companions, always by his side. They will surely miss his presence, as will all who knew him.

Barry had a zest for life, and his interests were as varied as they were passionate. Watching old war movies was one of his favorite pastimes—he admired the bravery depicted on screen and found inspiration in stories of heroism and sacrifice. And when it came to cars, Barry was in a league of his own. His love for muscle cars, particularly drag racing, was legendary among those who knew him. His heart belonged to Dodge, and he never wavered in his loyalty to Mopar, trusting their parts for any and all work on his treasured vehicles.

Barry also had a special place in his heart for classic TV shows, with *Green Acres* being his all-time favorite. He could often be found laughing at the antics of the characters, and finding humor in the simple, good-hearted nature of small-town life—a reflection, perhaps, of his own appreciation for the quieter moments in life.

Barry’s life was a rich tapestry woven with the threads of love, loyalty, and a spirit that never quit. He was a loving father to his daughter, LaShae Royal, and a supportive father-in-law to Casey Royal, both of whom he adored. Family was everything to Barry, and his bond with his brother, Doug Weems, was unbreakable. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories, from childhood adventures to countless family gatherings that were filled with laughter, stories, and love.

Barry’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, strength, and passion will live on in the memories he leaves behind. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the way he touched the lives of those around him.

A celebration of Barry’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation service at 4:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 5:30 PM.
