Betty Evans Obituary

In Loving Memory of Betty Fay Kirby Evans
March 28, 1941 – September 13, 2025

Betty Fay Kirby Evans, of Cartersville, Georgia, slipped away from this life on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the age of eighty-four. She was born on March 28, 1941, in Pisgah, Alabama, to Otis Kirby and Ella Mae Phillips Kirby, whose quiet devotion and steady ways shaped the course of her early years.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Lamar” Evans, whose companionship was a cornerstone of her days. She was also predeceased by her precious grandchild, Madison Jade. Her sisters, Wilma Belcher and Barbara Gass, and her brothers, Bill Kirby, Harold Kirby, and David Kirby, also went on before her, leaving spaces at the family table that memory alone could fill.

Betty’s life is carried forward in the hearts of her children: her sons, Ron Brannon (Isabell) and Tim Brannon, and her daughter, Sandi Weaver (William). She leaves behind a wide circle of grandchildren: Christina Brannon (Robin Williams), Cassandra Pike (Rhett), Caroline Kendrick (Jeremy), Charlotte Pittman (Slade), Kirby Brannon, Amber Brannon (Josh), Jamie Leigh Cole (David), Haley Manis (Wayne), Amy Schelleack (Jonathan), Lawson Dunaway (Holly), Mary Smith (Tyson), Sarah Dunaway, and Levi Dunaway. To these she gave her laughter, her songs and her watchful presence. Her great-grandchildren: Hank, Adeline, Alec, Emma Helen, Corbett, Sadie Mae, Chloe, Destine, Aria, Madison, Skylin, Gracelyn, Haylen, Declan, Alex, Elinor, Emilee, Natalie, Camden, Carson, and Crawford carry her legacy still further, each one a bright thread in the tapestry of her love. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruby Harvey, Brenda Kirby, and Judy Kirby, and her brothers, Ed Kirby and Jerry Kirby, who keep her memory alive in their own stories of growing up together.

Betty was of the Methodist faith and a faithful member of Floyd Springs United Methodist Church, where she sat among friends and lifted her voice in hymns. She loved the outdoors, and the woods of Georgia knew her footsteps as she hunted deer and turkey with an unerring hand and a steady patience. She also loved to fish, camp, and spend time beneath the open sky, finding peace and joy in the simple beauty of nature. She was just as skilled with a needle, piecing together quilts that bore both beauty and comfort. Her love of play carried her to the softball fields of Floyd County, where she joined her co-workers in the ladies’ league, her laughter rising over the dust of summer games.
By trade, she was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Coosa Valley Home Health, a calling that required both strength and tenderness. Those who were in her care will remember her not only for her skill, but for the kindness that moved through her like a quiet current. And always, wherever she went, there was music; her guitar in her lap, her voice singing songs that belonged as much to the heart as to the ear.
