Brenda Lewis Obituary

Brenda Knowles Lewis
2/6/1950 - 4/16/2024

A devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, but most importantly, grandmother and GREAT grandmother. Her favorite title of all – Gan Gan. Brenda Knowles Lewis was born to Bertie Lee Smith Knowles and James C. “Shag” Knowles on February 6, 1950. Being the first of five children, Brenda was not only a big sister, but a second mother to her four younger siblings – two wonderful brothers, Jimmy & John Knowles, and two special sisters, the late Debra Barnes & Terri Knowles Fincher.

Brenda married James Paul Lewis on May 27, 1972. Along with nearly 52 years of marriage together, Brenda & Paul raised five children – the late Chip Ladale Ely, Kelli Rena Singleton, Mark Anthony Ely, Jamie Carlton Ely, and Cindy Marie Siniard, eight grandchildren – Kevin Singleton, Kendall Singleton (MJ), Lauren Siniard Calfee (Nick), Tristan Siniard (Sarah), Hayden Ely (Shannon), Cameron Ely (Raeann), Jessie Ely, and Casey Ely, five great grandbabies– Stetson Calfee, Caraline Calfee, Lynnlee Ely, and two heaven sent baby girls due in August, as well as her three fur babies – Lady, Rosie, and Gracie. Brenda retired from Floyd Medical Center after 30 years of employment where she met many people. Not only was she known as Brenda, most knew her as Gan Gan or Aunt B.

Brenda’s laugh and smile was contagious. There wasn’t a room that wouldn’t light up if she was in it. Her heart was one of a selfless servant, and anyone who crossed her path instantly fell in love with her. She was as silly as she was sweet, and kept everyone on their toes. Even in the hardest of times, you’d never catch her without a big smile and an “I love you, sweetheart!”. She was often the life of the party, and seldom passed up the chance to be the first one on the dance floor.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Bertie and Shag, her sister, Debbie, and her first born son, Chip.

Survivors include her husband, James Paul Lewis; her siblings, James C. “Jimmy” Knowles, Terri Knowles Fincher, and John W. Knowles who blessed her with a sister in LOVE, Michele Knowles; her children, Kelli Singleton, Mark Ely, Jamie Ely (Tamara), and Cindy Siniard (Jeff); her grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a number of friends.

The family would like to express their appreciation to those who have graciously cared for her during the duration of her sickness to include her amazing medical team. A special thank you to Davita Dialysis (Rome), Dr. Michael Land, Dr. Frank Stegall, Jr., Dr. Manny Gallego, Dr. Cline Jackson, Dr. Molly Vicchrilli, Dr. Mary Quandt, Dr. Richard Donadio, and the numerous nurses and medical staff who fought to keep her comfortable in her last weeks.
