Byron Wade Christie

Byron Wade Christie, 60, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Born on November 1, 1963, at the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, Byron was the cherished son of the late William Eugene Christie and Shirley G. Terry.

Byron made his mark in the world as a skilled restoration contractor with Woodward Properties. His adept hands and a keen eye for detail restored not just structures but the hearts of those he worked with. His memory lives on through his loving family - his sons, Byron Wade Christie II (Susie Reed) and Daniel Allen Christie (Keely Hamilton); his daughter, Shannon Renae Christie; and his adored grandchildren, Nick Harris, Skylin Christie, Zachary Quiahua, Addison Christie, Kinsley Rutledge, Cameron Messer, Jada Messer, Landon Messer, Saige Creed, Fallon Plemmons, Eli Gulley, Jayden Gulley, and Kaydence Staley. He is also survived by his brothers, William Edward Christie and Jamie Terry.

A man of faith, Byron was a devoted member of the Christ of Gospel Church of Rome. His spiritual journey was confirmation of his belief in compassion and community. Those who knew Byron will remember him as a master craftsman who could fix anything - a trait that mirrored his ability to mend spirits and brighten lives. An avid football enthusiast, he eagerly awaited each fall to cheer on his beloved Florida Gators, a passion he shared with his family and friends.

Byron's role as a father and grandfather was imbued with love, wisdom, and joy. He was a fantastic dad and an awesome grandpa whose legacy of kindness, strength, and humor will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a visitation on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Byron's life will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Both services will be held at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, located at 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165. The interment will immediately follow the funeral service and will take place at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens at 2549 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165 The pallbearers are Terry Woodard, Chris Abshire, Bryce Abshire, Stefan Svardh, Nick Harris, Cameron Messer, Justin Parker, and Andrew Parker. The honorary pallbearers are Doug Callaway, Jamie Hayes, and Willie Couzzort.

In Byron's memory, may we all find comfort in the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories we hold dear. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit continues to inspire and guide us.
