In Loving Memory of Calvin Anthony Howerton
December 9, 1958 – March 3, 2025
Thus ends the earthly journey of Calvin Anthony Howerton, a man of steadfast spirit and strength, who on Monday, March 3, 2025, laid down the burdens of this world and passed into the halls beyond mortal sight. He was sixty-six years old, and his life’s tale began on a winter’s day, December 9, 1958, when he first drew breath in the fair town of Rome, Georgia. Born to Johnny and Elsie Mae Howerton, now long at rest, he was a son of steadfast lineage, shaped by the hands of time and kinship.
His road was not without sorrow, for he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Howerton and Gregory Howerton, whose passing left echoes in the hearts of those who knew them. Yet Calvin was not left alone upon the path, for his brother, Ed Lamar Howerton, remains to walk a while longer beneath the sky. He also leaves behind a gathering of nieces and nephews, among them Derek Howerton and Rhianan Patterson, who will carry his memory forward.
Calvin was a man of simple joys and steadfast passions. He was drawn to the power and grace of machines; cars and motorcycles held a particular place in his heart, for in them he found both freedom and the quiet thrill of the open road. Music, too, was among his greatest loves, and in the chords of country ballads and the raw energy of rock and roll, he discovered a melody that echoed the beat of his own heart. Yet, for all his love of the road and song, it was perhaps in the company of dogs that he found the truest kind of fellowship, for no creature is more loyal, and Calvin’s heart belonged to them as surely as theirs did to him.
In keeping with the ways of those who cherish remembrance in quiet reverence, his close family will gather to honor his passing in a solemn graveside service, where Chaplain Alan Fuller shall speak words of parting, and Calvin shall be laid to rest in the hallowed ground of Eastview Cemetery.
Thus, his journey in this world is ended, yet his tale shall not be forgotten, for those who love him will bear it in their hearts, like an old song sung by the fire on a long night. And so he takes his leave, beyond the veil of time, to the place where all roads one day meet again.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
