In Loving Memory of
Carmen Melinda Reyes Guzman Reed
February 1, 1971 – December 8, 2024
Carmen Melinda Reyes Guzman Reed, of Rome, Georgia, ascended to the realms eternity on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the age 53 years. Born the cherished daughter of John Reed and Barbara Reed, on February 1, 1971, she graced the world with a presence both tender and bold.
In life, Carmen walked a path adorned with love’s light and the laughter of her beloved. As the devoted wife of Joel Reyes Guzman, her heart found its perfect rhythm, beating in harmony with his. Together they composed a symphony of devotion, nurturing the lives of five precious children: her sons, Nico Reed, Cody Reed, Joel Reed and Jay Reed and her daughter Bobbie Reed. Her granddaughter, Ella Reed, a gem of light, enriched her days with boundless joy, embodying the legacy of Carmen’s unwavering love.
A sister steadfast and true, Carmen stood as a pillar of strength for her brothers, John Reed and Chad Wood, and bore the memory of her late brother, Darrel Reed, as a cherished hymn in her heart. The bonds of family extended far, embracing her stepfather, Grover Wood; her mother-in-law, Efigenia Reyes Guzman and her father-in-law, Miguel Reyes Chavez; her sisters-in-law, Lydia Reyes Guzman and Ofelia Reyes Guzman; her brothers-in-law, Raciel Reyes Guzman and Rigoberto Reyes Guzman; her beloved aunts, Judy Ray and Linda Ely; and her cousins, Abigail Palmerin and Eusebio Palmerin. Each, a dearly held thread in the tapestry of her life.
Carmen, a woman of many hues! A fierce wit adorned her, sharp and sparkling like the edge of a sword, yet tempered with kindness that flowed like a gentle stream. She laughed at life’s trials, turning shadows into light with her humor. A seeker of mysteries, she reveled in tales of crime and intrigue, her mind delighting in unraveling their knotted threads. With tea in hand—be it warm as her heart or cool as her resolve—she found solace in life’s simplest pleasures.
Yet above all, she was a mother whose love knew no bounds. Her children, the stars of her firmament, felt the warmth of her steadfast care and the depth of her sacrifice. To her husband Joel, she was a sanctuary, a partner in all things, a love eternal.
The visitation service to honor Carmen’s life will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, beginning at 12:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM immediately following the visitation. Both the visitation and the funeral service will be held at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel, located at 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165.
Though Carmen’s physical presence is no longer with us, her vibrant spirit, boundless love, and unforgettable humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest, beloved Carmen, in the arms of eternity, your light undimmed, your legacy everlasting.
Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
