Carol Hammons, 52 passed away on July 04, 2023.
Carol grew up on the Gulf Coast in Ocean Springs, MS. She loved the water and spent as much time as she could at the beach. She was a girl scout, loved to roller skate and ride bikes, she played flute in the band, and spent time as a Disney character while taking college classes at the Disney Institute. She married in her mid-twenties and had a son. She loved being a mother and enjoyed serving as team mom for his baseball team.
She got her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and worked as a comptroller for a construction firm until an illness caused her disability retirement.
While on this earth Carol, a mighty prayer warrior, was always interceding for others. Even when her health was failing her, you can hear her ask “How can I pray for you today?” We know she is in heaven doing the same on behalf of all of us.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Wilson Powell Coody. Carol's legacy will be lovingly remembered and celebrated by her surviving family. Her spirit lives on in her son, Lucas Hammons, and his half-siblings, Brett Hammons and Jacklyn Hammons, her mother, Norma Jean Coody, her sister, C. Catreece Fritts (Russell), her nephews, cousins, and many other family members.
She never met a stranger, and would show others the love of Christ through her actions and words. She always put others first before her own needs.
She was a wonderful team member of Loving Others Ministry homeless outreach, supporting and praying over others regularly. If she couldn’t be physically present to help, you knew she was at home praying for them.
When she sang worship songs, you thought you were in the presence of an angel because love, kindness, and praise echoed as she sang.
Despite her physical limitations she had the heart of a servant and constantly sought out ways to serve others.
Carol had many loves in Rome, first and foremost her Church and her church family, the friends at the Greystone Apartments, and her life group family.
She fiercely loved her family and constantly talked and told wonderful stories and memories about them.
To know Carol was to know the love Christ has for each of us.
The family asks for everyone to dress comfortably in colorful clothing for her Celebration of Life.
