Charles Adams Obituary

Mr. Charles Adams, age, 91 passed away at his residence Friday, January 26, 2024.

Charles Dillard Adams, a cherished Rome, Georgia, community member, has completed his earthly journey. Born on November 20, 1932, in Tift County, Georgia, Charles was the youngest of 14 children to J.B. and Pearl Adams. In 1947, his family relocated to Barker Road Southwest, marking the beginning of a life rich in family ties and community service.

Charles was predeceased by his parents and siblings: Ben, Marshall, Johnny, JB, George, Dempsey, Estelle, Mamie, Dolly, Irene, Inez and Dorothy. His legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of seventy-three years, Dorothy Delona Allen Adams, whom he married on September 15, 1950.

A dedicated family man, Charles is survived by his children and their spouses: Gene and Claire Adams, Tony Adams, Mike and Teresa Adams, Tammie and John Picklesimer, Dwayne and Dondra Trotter, all of Rome, Georgia. His life's joy was further multiplied by his seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Jeremy, Jason, Jesse, Scottie, and Tonya, and fifteen great-grandchildren, each a testament to his enduring love and guidance.

Charles and Dorothy were both life partners and business partners, owning Adams Gulf East on Turner McCall and Adams Gulf West on Shorter Avenue in Rome. Charles's professional journey was as diverse as it was impressive. Starting as a gifted an upholsterer shortly after marrying Dorothy, his innate talent in mechanics and electronics led him to various roles across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including a stint in Detroit, Michigan. His career trajectory saw him serving as a maintenance foreman at Chain’s Potato Chip Company, and  Maintenance Supervisor, at Lithonia Lighting in Conyers, Georgia.

In 1971, Charles and Dorothy embarked on a new venture, purchasing a Texaco gas station in Rome, with Dorothy at the helm. His commitment to craftsmanship continued in a contracting partnership with his late brother, Reverend George A. Adams, as they spent over thirty-five years building homes in Floyd County, Georgia. Charles retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, ingenuity, and dedication.

Charles' life was a remarkable blend of professional achievements and deep-rooted family values. His journey, from a young carpenter to a respected business owner and community builder, is a narrative of perseverance, skill, and commitment to family and community.
