Charles Garrett Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Charles Garrett

September 9, 1952 – December 22, 2024

In the gentle hush of December 22, 2024, Charles Garrett of Lindale, Georgia, slipped quietly from this world, leaving behind a legacy as enduring as the Southern oak trees that framed his life. Born on September 9, 1952, in the verdant hills of Rome, Georgia, Charles entered life as the cherished son of John Lee and Patty S. Garrett, who along with his sister-in-law Beverly Womack have now welcomed him into eternity.

For 72 remarkable years, Charles shared his heart and soul with his beloved wife for 46 years, Janice Garrett. Together, they built a life rippled with quiet devotion, a testament to love that weathered time’s trials with grace. A man of humble roots, steadfast faith, and hands that labored tirelessly as a plumber, crafting solutions as he wove stories, Charles embodied the spirit of the South

Charles was a man who relished the simplest pleasures: a familiar hymn, the laughter of friends, or the feel of a finely crafted knife in his hand. His collections of knives, guns, and antiques told the tale of a man fascinated by the stories that objects carry. He was a keeper of history with a sharp eye for beauty. Music flowed through his life like a river, and his joy in its melodies was rivaled only by his deep conversations about the Lord, a subject he approached with unwavering passion and conviction.

To his family, Charles was more than a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; he was the sturdy pillar around which their lives revolved. His wisdom and warmth touched each of his children, Darrell S. Garrett (Heather), Shaun P. Garrett (Lynn), and Stephanie Slaughter, and extended to his adoring grandchildren: Savannah Garrett, Alexia Slaughter, Grace Garrett, Nicholas Slaughter, Megan Garrett, Ayden Garrett, Bryson Slaughter, Isabella Slaughter, Hayden Phillips, and Guage Phillips. His legacy of love reaches even further, encompassing great-grandchildren Jariko Forcier and Oakley Garrett.

Charles’s siblings, John L. Garrett (Nancy), Darrell Garrett (Angela), Nathan Garrett, Barbara Gail Cohenour, and Brenda Sue Lloyd (Paul), were meaningful parts of the circle of love extended throughout his family. They shared in his laughter, his stories, and his steadfast loyalty. Each knew the depth of his generosity and the comfort of his companionship.

In addition to his parents, Charles’ legacy of love and laughter encompassed his sisters-in-law, Elaine Lemay (Tom), Rachel Callie’s (Greg); his brothers-in-law, Danny Davenport (Marya), Larry Davenport (Suzanne), Gerald Davenport, Gilbert Davenport (Deborah); and several nieces and nephews.

As a deacon at Harmony Baptist Church, Charles found his calling in service. His voice was steady in prayer, his hand quick to lend aid, and his heart open to anyone in need. His devotion to his faith was as unyielding as the Southern sun, and his life was a hymn of praise, offered daily in quiet deeds and tender words.

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, family and friends will gather at Harmony Baptist Church in Silver Creek to celebrate the life of Charles Garrett, a man whose presence was as warm and vital as a summer breeze. His memory is forever etched in the hearts of those he touched.

Charles Garrett’s life was a symphony of faith, family, and service. Though he has gone to his eternal home, his spirit lingers in the stories shared, the faith he inspired, and the love he gave so freely. Rest well, dear Charles. Yours was a life well lived, a love well shared.
