Charles White Obituary

In Loving Memory of Charles Franklin White
September 20, 1935 – August 10, 2024

Charles Franklin White, age 88, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Born on September 20, 1935, to the late John White and the late Iva C. Chambers White, Charles lived a life marked by hard work, passion, and a love for his family that knew no bounds.

Charles was a man whose interests and hobbies reflected his hands-on nature and deep appreciation for the things that brought him joy. A lifelong car enthusiast, Charles had a particular love for classic cars. He found immense pleasure in restoring and maintaining these timeless vehicles, often spending countless hours in his garage, where he combined his passion for mechanical work with his love for these beautiful machines. His expertise and dedication to his craft were evident in every car he worked on, and his knowledge of automotive history was as vast as his collection of cherished memories behind the wheel.

Beyond his love for cars, Charles enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He took great pride in maintaining lawns, finding peace and satisfaction in the rhythmic hum of the lawnmower as he meticulously cut the grass. This routine, seemingly ordinary to some, was a source of contentment for Charles, offering him time to reflect and connect with the outdoors.

In addition to his mechanical passions, Charles also had a deep connection to the land through bush logging. He loved the hard work and sense of accomplishment that came from managing and working the land. This connection to nature was a significant part of who Charles was—a man who found beauty and purpose in the world around him. Charles loved his country and served with great honor, he was a Specialist 3rd Class in the US army.

Charles was also a devoted family man. He is survived by his son, Terry L. White; his daughters, Jackie C. Clonts, Lynn Murphy, Cheyenne Rogers, and Sissy White. His children were his pride and joy, and he was a steadfast presence in their lives, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. His grandchildren, Brandon White, Shea Hovers, Nicholas Hovers, Keetra Murphy, Seth Murphy, and Dustin Rogers, held a special place in his heart, as did his great-grandchildren, Natalyann Hovers, Alexis White, Everleigh White, and Easton White. Charles was also blessed to have lived long enough to welcome a great-great-grandchild, Presley White, into the world, an addition to the family that brought him immense happiness.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved son, Shawn White, a loss that he carried with him throughout his life. Though Shawn is no longer with us, the bond they shared remains unbroken, a testament to the deep love that exists between father and son.

The legacy that Charles leaves behind is one of love, dedication, and passion. His family will hold services to celebrate his remarkable life on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel. The visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, providing an opportunity for friends and loved ones to pay their respects. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, where Charles’ life will be honored and remembered by those who knew him best.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon White, Shea Hovers, Seth Murphy, Lance Rogers, Charles Clonts, and Derek West, who will carry Charles to his final resting place at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Their role in this service reflects the deep respect and love they have for Charles, who will forever be remembered for the impact he had on their lives.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
