Cheryl Lynn Empey

July 27, 1947 ~ May 9, 2023 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Obituary

Cheryl Lynn Empey, 75, of Rome, Georgia, passed away into God’s Graces on Tuesday, May 9,
2023. She was born to Vivian Jyd Strup and the late Harley Swedell on July 27, 1947
She had two daughters, Carrie Davis, and Jennifer Dulany; four grandchildren, Savanna Davis,
Amanda Davis, Heidi Dulany, and Madeline Dulany; three great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Jerry Swedell and Bruce Swedell; and two sisters, Dawn Malvin and Arlinda Sindorf.

Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her family. They have always been a source of unconditional love
and support. Her family was always there to offer encouragement, guidance, and a listening ear
during the most joyous times in her life and during the most challenging times. Through the
years, her family has amassed a collection of shared memories and traditions they can cherish
and continue to create.

Cheryl was originally from Minnesota and moved to Texas in the 1980s. When her youngest daughter
moved to Rome, she did too. She had many hobbies; she absolutely loved cross-country skiing when she
lived in Minnesota. Minnesota boasts such ample snowfall during the winter season that it is a
veritable winter wonderland for outdoor enthusiasts like her. The rolling hills and vast forest
often spoke directly to her. Being a massive lover of the outdoors, she also greatly enjoyed fishing. She
liked gardening and raising chickens. She grew an enormous vegetable garden and always had fresh
eggs. Riding her bike was one of her favorite pastimes, and she could never get enough of reading a
good book. She had an eye for photography and seeing the beauty of refinishing furniture.
She was an alcoholic and had over forty years of sobriety. After she recovered, she went to a counselor
training program. After that, she spent her life helping people recover from drug and alcohol
addictions. She worked at this for thirty years and was the CFO of a non-profit drug and alcohol
abuse treatment center.

Cheryl was cherished and loved by everyone that got to meet her, she will be greatly missed! A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
