In Loving Memory of Christy Michelle Edwards
December 5, 1975 – April 12, 2025
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Christy Michelle Edwards, aged forty-nine, of Rome, Georgia, yielded her spirit unto peace, and into the quiet promise of eternity. Born on December 5, 1975, in Rome, Georgia, a city where the rivers sing and the dogwood trees bloom in symphonic harmony, Christy arrived as a light into the lives of her mother, Tena Moore Holbrooks, and her father, Michael Edwards. Her childhood, touched by the hot Georgia sun, laid the foundation for a life marked by kindness, elegance, and a devotion to those she loved.
Christy grew beneath the shade of family trees rich with legacy and affection, learning from strong women the joy of beauty and the comfort of care. She delighted in the small things, the feel of soil as she planted flowers that bloomed with the hope she carried, the rustle of dresses and laughter on shopping trips with her Grandmomma Dockery and her late Nannie Edwards, and her late Nannie Edwards, and Great-Grandmother Farmer. These women of renown taught Christy that fashion was not merely attire, but art. These were sacred hours wrapped in cotton and memory, stitched together by love.
A proud graduate of Pepperell High School, Class of 1994, Christy carried her youthful spirit forward, never losing her gift for laughter nor her capacity to brighten a room with her presence. She was of the Baptist faith, and though she did not wear her beliefs like a banner, she lived them in gentleness, in generosity, in grace. Her faith was a quiet current, steady and unwavering, guiding her through joy and through hardship alike.
Christy’s heart was her greatest treasure. She gave of it freely and without reservation. She was strong and resilient in the face of life’s storms, and an inspiration to those who walked beside her. Her life partner, Michael Shane Cook, knew this strength better than most, and together they built a life woven with devotion and understanding. Their sons, Michael Andrew “Drew” Cook and Christopher Maxwell "Max" Cook both the brightest stars in Christy’s sky, and the echo of her love will surely follow them all their days. Her family circle also includes a stepmother, June Edwards; her brothers, Steven Beau Holbrooks and David Lee Edwards; mother-in-law, Sandra Padgett; and the sweet, enduring memory of her stepfather, Steven Holbrooks, who preceded her in death.
Christy loved with a depth that was not easily put into words. She offered her time, her affection, and her steady presence to those who needed it, never asking for applause, only wishing to ease a burden or lift a heart. Her hands were tender, whether tending to a blossom in her rose garden or comforting a loved one. And in her presence, the world always felt a little more possible.
Her journey, though brief by the measures of time, was immense in meaning. Her family was her joy, her flowers her muse, and her life a psalm whispered softly into the wind. Now, she rests in that sacred stillness, beyond the veil of time, yet her spirit lingers where flowers bloom, where laughter rings, where love remains.
Christy will be laid to rest at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Her loved ones will gather to honor the luminous life she lived at Good Shepherd Funeral Home this Friday, April 18th 2025. Visitation and viewing is from 10:00 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. Service begins at 12:00 Noon.
