Collis Dale Boyd, Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away unexpectedly July 3, 2025.
Dale was born on July 25, 1961, in San Diego, California.
Dale graduated from West Rome High School in 1979. After graduating, he followed his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the United States Navy. A proud Navy veteran, Dale served his country for 20 years. During his service he spent most of his career out at sea as an Aviation Mechanist Mate working on aircraft. Before his retirement in 1999 his rank was Petty Officer First Class and he was stationed at Naval Station Norfolk. After retirement, he decided to make Virginia Beach, VA his home.
During his time in the Navy, he met his wife, Karen Gower Boyd and they were married for 38 years. Dale was an avid Ford Mustang lover and cherished his “Stang”. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle in his free time.
After retiring from the Navy, Dale went to work at the Ford Dealership as a mechanic. He went on to receive his CDL’s and went to work with McElroy Truck Lines and was an over-the-road driver for several years. After McElroy he went to work with BlueLinx Corporation and drove locally. Advanced Technology Institute was his current employer where he was a CDL Instructor. He loved his job and assisting his students in obtaining their CDL.
Dale is survived by his mother, Ann Boyd (Rome), his son, Shaun Allen Boyd, (New Jersey), his sister, Linda Boyd Koch (Jamey), his niece Racheal Boyd Hutcheson (Tyler), his nephews, Cameron Barber (Rome), Cole Koch (Rome), his sister-n-law, Susanne DiCarlo (Virginia Beach), and mother-n-law, Clara Gower (Virginia Beach), Great Nieces and Nephews. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Dale is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Gower Boyd, his father, Collis Dale Boyd, Sr. and his brother, Richard “Richie” Boyd.
A service to honor Dale’s life will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025. Visitation begins at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Pastor Mac McCurry will officiate the ceremony, opening and closing it with words of grace and remembrance. The eulogy will be delivered by Jamey Koch. Pallbearers will include Jamey Koch, Cameron Barber, Cole Koch, John Boyd, Tyler Hutcheson, and Chuck Fuller.
