Collis Dale, Boyd, Sr., of Rome, Ga, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2022, with all his family around him.
Dale was born on December 17, 1936, in Gordon County, GA. He was the seventh child of Richard and Lula Mae Boyd.
Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1955 and was sent to recruit training in San Diego, California.
After graduating training in the summer of 1955, he was assigned to Aircraft Ferry Squadron 32 (VRF-32)
at North Island, California. In 1957, he was transferred to Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii and
served there until 1959 and was then sent back to Naval Air Station, North Island, San Diego, California
to serve. In 1965, he was transferred to Naval Air Maintenance Training Detachment at the Naval Air
Station, Key West Florida. March 1969, he received his orders to go to Vietnam and was stationed at the
Naval Air Facility at Cam Ranh Bay. March 1970, he received orders to Patrol Squadron 45 (VP-45) at
Naval Air Station in Jacksonville Florida. While here, the squadron deployed to Sigonella, Sicily for 5
months. October 1971, he received orders for Recruiting Duty. Prior to reporting to recruiting duty, he
had attended recruiting school in Bainbridge, MD and then went to Manhattan, Kansas and served there
until March 13, 1974. At this time, he retired from the Navy with 20 years’ service and received the
following medals and ribbons: Naval Commendation Medal with “V” for Valor, Combat Ribbon,
Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon (3 awards), Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), National Defense
Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal along with numerous letters of
commendations.
After retiring from the Navy, Dale worked at Bekaert Steel Wire Corporation and retired in 1993. After
retirement from Bekaert, Dale worked at Floyd College (now Georgia Highlands) as the Purchasing Agent
and achieved his final retirement in 2003. After retirement, Dale and Ann enjoyed traveling as much as
possible and visited all 50 states. They visited Canada and Hawaii twice and Alaska once.
Dale is survived by his wife, Ann Boyd, of 62 years. They met June 11, 1960, and knew it was love at first
sight and married 2 months later on August 17, 1960. His son, Collis Dale Boyd, Jr (Karen), his daughter,
Linda Boyd Koch (Jamey), Granddaughter, Racheal Hutcheson (Tyler) and Jacey Koch, Grandson,
Cameron Barber, Cole Koch and Shaun Boyd, Great-grandchildren, Brynlee Hutcheson,
Gabe Hutcheson. Landon Ely, Adelynn Ely, Cade Lowe. He took care of her and his family with all that he had in him and loved unconditionally.
In addition to his parents and siblings, Dale is preceded in death by his son, Richard Dwayne Boyd.
Dale and Ann were members of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church for many years until its closure, where Dale
served as a Deacon. They are presently active members of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends and family at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel located at 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, GA 30165 on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, for visitation from 12:00PM - 2:00PM, funeral services at 2:00PM following Interment at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Eulogy by Jamey Koch, Rev Mac McCurry and Rev Clyde Hampton will be officiating. At other hours you can visit the daughter's, Linda Koch residence located at 8 Williamsburg Dr. Rome, GA 30165.
