Darrell Jennings Obituary

In Loving Memory of Darrell Wayne Jennings

There are some men who walk through this world like whispers, gentle and unassuming, their presence felt in the quiet ways they mend what is broken; be it cars, hearts, or time itself. Darrell Wayne Jennings was one of them.

Born in Rome, Georgia, on January 20, 1961, to Nancy Jennings and the late Jimmy Lee Jennings, Darrell lived a life marked by loyalty, hard work, and a kindness so effortless it seemed stitched into the very fabric of his being. He was a man of grease-streaked hands and an artist’s heart, a soldier with a poet’s soul, and though life gave him his fair share of burdens, he carried them with the easy grace of someone who knew the weight of things but refused to let them define him.

Before illness slowed his hands, Darrell was a master of his craft. He was a mechanic by trade, a painter and body repair specialist by skill, and an artist in the truest sense of the word. For years, he worked in the auto repair department at Adairsville Ford, breathing life back into what had been battered and bruised. Later, when his hands could no longer turn wrenches with the same ease, they found solace in crafts that were intricate, detailed creations that he fashioned with the same patience and precision he had once given to engines and steel. He gave these works away freely, to family, to friends, to anyone who might find joy in them, because that was Darrell; always giving, never asking, a quiet architect of small kindnesses.

His time in the United States Army was another chapter in his story, four years of service that he carried not as a boast but as a quiet, steady pride. He was never one to speak too much of the past, never one to dwell on the things that might have been. Instead, he focused on what was in front of him, which was mainly the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, the simple joys of a well-lived life.

Darrell is survived by those who knew him best and loved him most: his mother, Nancy Jennings; his sons, Darrell W. Jennings, Jr. and Tommy Evans; his daughters, Paige Woodard, Tabitha Jennings, and Sherry Jennings; his brother, Kenneth Jennings (Judi); his sisters, Kathy Lloyd and Lisa Johnson (Mike); and a constellation of nieces and nephews: Kati, Estelle, Lyric, Dadrian, Wayne and Justin Jennings, Cheyenne Allison and Dalton Lloyd. Each one of them carries a piece of him forward in their hearts.

The family will gather to honor Darrell’s life on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel. Visitation begins at 6:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM.

And so, we say goodbye, though it hardly seems enough for a man who gave so much and asked for so little. His memory lingers like the scent of motor oil in a sun-warmed garage, like the hush of a summer evening, like the steady hum of an engine that never quite quits running.

Rest easy, Darrell. You are loved.
