In Loving Memory of David Wayne Phillips

July 22, 1953 ~ October 5, 2023

In the tapestry of life, some threads shine brighter than others, weaving memories and emotions that remain forever etched in our hearts. Such was the life of David Wayne Phillips. On Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the age of 70, David closed his earthly chapter in Lyerly, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and profound faith.

Born in the historic city of Rome, Georgia, on July 22, 1953, David was the cherished son of Ebb Finnie and Charlcie Elizabeth Phillips. His early years in Rome laid the foundation for a life filled with unwavering love for his family and a deep-rooted passion for life's simple pleasures.

While the heavens celebrate the reunion of David with his cherished wife, Mary Dover Phillips, and his doting parents, he leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories for those who remain. His son, Scotty Phillips, stands as a testament to David's unwavering guidance; his stepsons, David Michael Barnes and Jeff Barnes, embody his spirit of acceptance and unity. His daughters, Wendy Weaver (Scottie) and Beth Phillips shine with the wisdom and grace he imparted to them. His stepdaughter, Judy Dover, will never forget the bond they shared. David's legacy further flourishes through his eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and the nieces and nephews who were fortunate to learn from his experiences.

David's siblings, his brothers Gary Phillips (Evelyn) and Roger Phillips, and his sisters Charlotte Ogle and Mary Johns (Ronald), share countless tales of their childhood adventures and life's shared milestones.

A devout follower of the Baptist faith, David's relationship with the Lord was the anchor in his life. His unwavering belief that everything in his life was orchestrated for good, stemming from his love for Christ, gave him a unique resilience and optimism. He was a beacon of joy, and his laughter, which resonated in every corner of his home, was a testament to his zest for life.

Beyond his faith and family, David had a penchant for the exhilarating world of NASCAR. The thrill of watching his favorite driver deftly maneuver the racetrack brought him unbridled joy. His creative spirit found another outlet in writing. David's children's book has been a source of delight for young readers, and his talent as a songwriter touched many a heart.

To pay homage to such an extraordinary life, the family invites loved ones to join them on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A period of visitation and remembrance will be held from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:30 PM, where Pastor Bill Abercrombie will share words of solace and hope.
