Debra Evans Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mrs. Debra Penny Evans
September 5, 1955 – August 7, 2025

Mrs. Debra Penny Evans, sixty-nine, of Rome, Georgia, passed from this life on Thursday, August 7, 2025, with the nearness of her loving children and family.

She was born on September 5, 1955, the cherished daughter of the late Jim and Mary Penny. The rhythm of her life’s seasons was marked by both joy and sorrow. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Evans; her daughter, Debra Ann Cato; her precious granddaughter, Tinleigh Cato; her brother, John Penny; and her sisters, Joyce Highfield, Dottie Robinson, and Nancy Pierce. In their passing, they left spaces only memory can fill.

Debra’s heart and hands were always full of work, full of love, full of the many small generosities that make a home a place of belonging. She raised her children with a blend of tenderness and resolve, guiding them through the everyday business of life with a faith in perseverance. She is survived by her daughters, Kary Comparan (Jose), Mary Rogers (Brian), Sally Veliz, and Amanda Hernandez; her sons, James Cato and Charlie Boozer (Kayla). She also leaves behind her brother, Hank Penny (Shelia); her sister-in-law, Tammy Penny; and her brother-in-law, John Ed Robinson. Her family tree, deep-rooted and far-reaching, includes twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, each one a testament to the enduring branches of her love.

Her farewell will take place on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel, with visitation beginning at noon and the service at two o’clock in the afternoon. Chad Penny will offer the words of remembrance. From there, Debra will be carried to Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Centre, Alabama, accompanied by the steady hands of her pallbearers: Austin Rogers, Mackenize Boozer, Elias Valle, Matthew Comparan, Frankie Comparan, and Harley Boozer, with Thomas Collins serving as honorary pallbearer.

The Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to have been entrusted with the care of these arrangements.
