Dominga Alvarez Sliter
May 2, 1943 – December 19, 2024
The radiant life of Dominga Alvarez Sliter, aged 81, came to a close on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Rome, Georgia. Born on May 2, 1943, in Macdona, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of the late Julia and Louis Gonzales, whose love and values shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.
Dominga’s journey through this world was enriched by her devotion to family, her enduring faith, and her unyielding strength. She now rests alongside her treasured husband, Lawrence Sliter; her beloved daughter, Connie Rizzo; and her dear granddaughter, Tiffany Butler, whose spirits surely welcomed her with open arms.
Her legacy continues through her surviving children, Tony Sliter, Mary Belue, and Yvette (Christopher) Mehl, and her many grandchildren, who were the jewels of her life: Samantha Butler, Brittney Nelson (Ross), Julia Butler, Kenneth Butler, Rebecca Johnson, Marie Bessette (Shawn), Chris Watkins, Tony Sliter Jr. and Lisa Schenk. Dominga was also blessed to share an enduring bond with her brother, Joe Gonzales, and her sisters, Stefana Vasquez, Jane Madrid, Mary Tucker, and Gracie Perez.
To know Dominga was to know warmth and kindness personified. She carried the rare gift of never meeting a stranger; her arms and heart were always open, making all feel like family. Her faith as a Christian was the bedrock of her life, and she served her church with humility and joy. Whether volunteering her time, lending a helping hand to children in need, or simply offering a kind word, Dominga’s acts of love rippled outward in ways that changed lives.
Even in moments of her own pain, she found laughter, a wellspring of resilience that lifted others as much as herself. Her quick wit and humor could transform any gathering, her jokes a balm for weary hearts. It is said that strength takes many forms, and in Dominga, it shone as the courage to give selflessly, the grace to forgive endlessly, and the power to love unconditionally.
The family will gather to honor Dominga’s life on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165. A visitation service will begin at 5:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:30 PM. The eulogy will be delivered by Rita Jones, with heartfelt words shared by Brittney Nelson and other family members in memory of her.
As the heavens gain a soul so precious, let those of us who remain carry forth the light Dominga shone so brightly. In her laughter, love, and faith, she taught us all how to live with purpose and grace. May her memory forever guide and inspire us.
Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
