Donald Watters Obituary

Loving Memory of Donald Eugene Watters
December 31, 1939 – May 8, 2025

On May 8, 2025, Donald Eugene Watters, age eighty-five, passed peacefully from this world into the arms of his Savior. A son of Rome, Georgia, he was born there on December 31, 1939, to the late Clarence and Lydia Watters, and it was in that same cherished soil that he sowed a life of dedication, family, and unwavering faith.

Donald was a deep, devoted family man. He loved playing video games, especially Mario Cart, with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a steadfast husband to his beloved wife, Linda Faye Robinson Watters, whose partnership remained his anchor through decades of love and labor. Together, they built a home filled with grace and resilience, raising children who became testament to his character.

He is survived by his son, Hubert Eugene Watters (Kim), and his daughters, Lura Gay Thompson, Georgia Ann Culberson (Jackie), and Jessie Leigh Hitchcock. Each of Donald’s children carries forward his enduring legacy of quiet service and steadfast love.

Donald is survived by his grandchildren, who were the crown upon his years: Bert Hitchcock, Emily L. Purdy, Evan Purdy, Kasey Miller, Reilly Grogan, Piper Thompson, Gracie Hitchcock, Matt Williams, and Matthew Mathison His legacy extends into the next generation through his great-grandchildren: Mason House, Adlyn LeCroy, Carter Miller, Marleigh Holden, and Denver Grogan.

Donald was one of many siblings in a family rooted in fellowship and faith. He is survived by his brothers, Loyd Watters, Doyle Watters, Cecil Waters (Mary Sue); and his sisters, Betty J. Roberson, Barbara Gentry, Connie West, and Carolyn Patterson (Larry). A host of nieces and nephews, each touched by his kindness and wisdom, remain to carry his memory onward.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Donald Jerome Watters; his son-in-law, Bert Hitchcock; and his dear sisters, Ruby Bagley and Bonnie Shaw. Their spirits, long missed, now rejoice at his homecoming.

A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025. Loved ones may gather at 1:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel, with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 PM at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Jackie Culberson will officiate. Music will be lovingly provided by Colton Miller. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jerry Watters, Terry Watters, Jimmy Boyd, Charles Shaw, Vic Shaw, and Marvin Watters.

Though Donald has laid down his earthly labor, his spirit abides in the hearts of those who knew him. He lived as a man of principle, being gentle in word, generous in deed, and unshakable in his walk with the Lord. His life was a living prayer, and now he rests in eternal peace.

Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been faithfully entrusted with the arrangements.
