Dora Hall Obituary

Dora Mae Hall passed away Tuesday at a local hospital. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at New Canaan Baptist Church and a current member of The Church of God of the union of assembly. She was born August 12, 1933, to the late Jessie L Farmer and Lillian Abernathy Farmer.

Dora Mae received her LPN nursing license while working in the Tuberculosis Unit at Batty State Hospital. She worked at Cresswell nursing home as well. The Floyd County board of education employed Dora Mae as a school bus driver for 33 years. She was loved by many of her students. They recall her saying on Friday, “how do you spell Friday?”  P-A-R-T-Y. On weekends, she worked on the skating ring floor at Greenland Skating Rink, helping children who had fallen. Dora Mae opened her home to many less fortunate such as troubled teens, unwed mothers, and eventually mentally ill women. She was awarded the Ellis Hale Award for her service and support of the mentally ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Arthur Jack Hall Sr., and son Dr. Arthur Jack Hall Jr.  Brothers Houston Farmer and JL Farmer Jr. Survivors, including Donna Brown (Cliff) and Lee Ford (Mike). Grandchildren: Joseph Pierce, Jared Brown (Sarah), Ryan Brown (Heather), Brian Pierce (Patti), DoraLee Burnes (Ty), Steven Ford, Zack Ford (Maria), Alanna Hall Gonzalez (Jeynell), Mia Hall. She also has 14 great-grandchildren.

She was the matriarch of our family and the Queen of “week 32” at Ocean East Resort Club in Ormond Beach, Florida. She often took food to those less fortunate than her and fed her entire family every Sunday. She had endless energy and a passion for living to the fullest. She was the best example of how to love and not discriminate. She will be loved and missed for eternity.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday September 30th, 2022, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, with Rev. Lamont Kiser officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
