Dorothy Lavelle Magnicheri Stansell,
Mrs.Dorothy Stansell,age84, of Sherrill’s Ford N.C.passed away at her home early Saturday morning May 24.
Mrs.Stansell was born in McComb Mississippi on October 8th 1940. She is the daughter of the late Ralph Sr. & Annie Mae Magnicheri. She was preceded in death by her late husband Charles Barry Stansell , a son Samual Barry Stansell and a sister Nettie Ann McElwee all of Rome. Survivors include two sons Gary Ralph Stansell of Sherrill’s Ford, Charles Michael Stansell of Hickory, Daughter-in-law Tammy Denise Stansell,Ralph Jr and Merinda Magnicheri of Silver Creek, and Joyce Clark of Riverside.Mrs,Stansell had 9 grandchildren,1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs.Stansell moved to Rome Ga. in 1942 and lived there almost 80 years. She was a Graduate of Saint Mary’s Catholic School and later Model High School. Mrs.Stansell was the oldest of 4 siblings born to Ralph Sr. and Annie Mae Magnicheri. Mom was called on at an early age to help in the household. She set the table, did dishes, and got the girls bathed. Mom was a hard worker and the “glue” that held our family together. She instilled in us boys the same attributes she grew up knowing. Barry would wash dishes and I would dry, we could cook at age 10 and did our own laundry by 12. I can remember her working long days just to come home and cook dinner. Then she would get us boys ready for school the next day.
Mrs.Stansell worked only one job her entire life. She started in 1959 as an operator for Southern Bell on 13th street in Rome. She later moved up to a lead position with Southern Bell in Downtown Atlanta. Mother retired for Bell South in 1990 after 30+years of service. Do you remember dialing 411? This is the operator. How may I help you? Barry and I fought a lot as kids and we’d call mom at work just to hear someone answer “operator can I help you”. Mom it’s me. Quit calling me at work. Barry keeps hogging the t.v.
My mom was sometimes referred to as “different”. That she was. Unique in her own way. I will truly miss this “different” lady. May you rest in peace.
