Douglas Mark Forsyth
October 2, 1961 – January 22, 2025
Douglas Mark Forsyth, aged 63, departed this life on January 22, 2025, leaving behind the hum of engines and the haunting echo of Georgia mountain winds. Born on October 2, 1961, in Rome, Georgia, he was the son of the late Owens Houston Forsyth and Glenda Roach Forsyth.
Douglas was a man of fire and steel, drawn to the roar of engines and the thrill of motion. Whether it was the glint of chrome on a motorcycle or the grit of dirt track racing under his nails, he found his joy where speed and power converged. He was an avid football fan, lived and breathed the glory of the Georgia Bulldogs, his fervor unshaken through every triumph and heartbreak. But the mountains, those eternal sentinels in the beautiful Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, were where his soul truly settled, whether he camped beneath their canopy of stars or felt their whispering winds stir something deep and unspoken within him.
Douglas’ family was one rooted in the red clay of the South and bound by love as rugged and steadfast as the land itself. He leaves behind a family forged in his love and bound by an indomitable spirit. His sons, Houston Forsyth and Dustin Forsyth, carry his name forward with pride. His daughters, Whitney Forsyth (Joshua Smith) and Casey Forsyth, reflect his resilience and warmth. Eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren will carry his legacy into a future he dreamed of. His brother, Brent Forsyth, remains to honor the unbroken bond of kinship.
A celebration of Douglas’ roaring life will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Friends and family will gather at noon for visitation, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Don Jenkins presiding over the farewell. He will be laid to rest at Floyd Memory Gardens, his name etched in stone as a testament to a life that left tracks across the hearts of those who loved him.
The pallbearers who will carry Douglas to his rest include Dewayne Johnson, Jeff Barnett, Tony Lindsey, Dean Lindsey, Dugan Collum and Dusty Forsyth. The honorary pallbearers are Brent Forsyth, Houston Forsyth, Joshua Smith and Bentley Smith, men who shared in the tapestry of his life.
Douglas was a man whose story lingers like the scent of pine and motor oil on the mountain breeze.
Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
