Edgar Dorman Bishop, 76, of Rome passed away Tuesday morning April15, 2014 in a local hospital following a short illness.
A native of Sand Rock, Alabama Mr. Bishop was born January 29, 1938 son of the late Herbert Bishop and Thelma Sims Bishop. He had been a resident of Rome since 1984 and prior to retirement was employed by General Electric in the Winding Department. Mr. Bishop was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1961 to 1963 and his hobbies included fishing and admiring old cars. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Reuben and Wallace Bishop. He was a man with a dry sense of humor and a deep and abiding love for his family. He continued his service to his country and fellow man by volunteering with the Shanklin - Attaway honor guard, providing military rites for veterans.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Viola Bishop; two sons and a daughter in law Edgar Dorman Bishop, Jr. "Eddy" and Kimberly Bishop of Franklin, GA and Joseph Bishop of Trion. A daughter Donna Newsome of Cohutta, GA; Nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a brother Donald Bishop of Summerville also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 18, 2014 in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Reverend Skip Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Honor Guard of the Shanklin- Attaway Post 5, American Legion providing military honors. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 until 3 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Honor Guard of the Shanklin - Attaway Post 5, American Legion.
Sons and grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The Shanklin - Attaway American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers.
