She passed away peacefully at a local hospital in Rome, Georgia at the remarkable age of 99. Born on March 22, 1925, in Floyd County, GA. Edna was the cherished daughter of the late John F. Martin and Rebecca Barnett Martin. Her life was one of deep connection to her family, friends, church, and community—a legacy woven with love, service, and grace.
Edna is preceded in death by six beloved sisters and four brothers. Her heart was one that always found joy in helping others, and that spirit of care extended to her family, nieces, nephews, and beyond. She also shared a lifelong bond with her dear friend and devoted caregiver, Fay Holden, who remained by her side through the years.
A woman of unwavering faith, Edna was the oldest living member of New Life Church of God, a congregation that she supported tirelessly throughout her life. One of her greatest passions was collecting food for the church's Food Pantry, ensuring that those in need were never forgotten. Her generosity and compassion knew no bounds, and she found great fulfillment in serving her church and community.
Edna’s work ethic was evident in her professional life as well. She dedicated many years of service to both Sola Electric and K-Mart in Chicago, where she formed lasting friendships and left behind a reputation for diligence and integrity.
