In Loving Memory of Elaine Lambros Thomas
August 11, 1940 – February 13, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elaine Lambros Thomas, 83, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Rome, Georgia. Elaine, a beacon of light and love to all who knew her, was born on August 11, 1940, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Gus and Mary Lambros.
Elaine’s journey through life was marked by her incredible strength, her unwavering faith, and her profound love for her family. Her legacy is carried on by her devoted husband of sixty-one years, John Thomas; her treasured daughter, Elyssa Williams (Barry); and her loving daughter-in-law, Karen Thomas. She was a doting grandmother to Nicholas (Tori) Williams, Zachary (Bailey) Williams, Matthew Williams, Christopher Thomas, Emily Thomas, and Olivia Thomas. Elaine was reunited in spirit with her son Dean Thomas, her brother James Lambros, and her parents, who preceded her in death.
Elaine’s love story with John began on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1962, a fitting start for a life filled with gratitude, joy, and companionship. Together, they navigated life’s ups and downs, always with grace and a sense of togetherness. Elaine’s faith played a central role in her life as a devout member of The Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, Georgia, where she found solace, community, and purpose.
Her ”arly life in New York saw her graduating from Bayside High School in Queens, New York, followed by her pursuit of fashion studies in Manhattan. Elaine’s flair for fashion and design was not just a career but a passion that she infused into every aspect of her life, from her professional endeavors in industry to the intricate crocheting projects that she so loved.
In 1977, Elaine and John embarked on a new adventure, moving to Rome, Georgia. There, they poured their hearts and souls into The Country Gentleman Restaurant, a beloved local establishment they owned and operated for forty-two years. Elaine’s warmth, creativity, and hospitality made the restaurant more than just a place to eat; it was a home away from home for many.
Beyond her professional and creative pursuits, Elaine was a voracious reader who found joy and escape in the pages of books. Her life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and faith, woven with the threads of family, friendship, and community.
Elaine’s life and legacy will be remembered and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. We invite all who knew Elaine to hold her memory close, to find comfort in the love she shared, and to honor her spirit by embracing the beauty and creativity that defined her life. Her family and friends will gather to Celebrate Elaine’s life on Saturday, February 17th at 5:30 PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Stuart Neslin will lead a Biblical Wake with Benediction in the Greek Orthodox tradition.
Elaine Lambros Thomas will be dearly missed, but her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she touched. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be eternal.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
