Eric Haven Mathis
June 1, 1994 – January 30, 2025
From the gentle hush of dawn on June 1, 1994, in Rome, Georgia, to the solemn eve of January 30, 2025, the life of Eric Haven Mathis unfolded as a quiet yet profound testament to love, devotion, and quiet wonder. Known lovingly as Haven to those who held him dear, his name was more than a calling, it was a place of refuge, a space of warmth, and a soul imbued with kindness.
Born to Eric Justin Mathis and the late Lisa Erwin Mathis, Haven’s path was shaped by the unwavering love of his grandmother, Linda Louise Mathis, who raised him with steadfast care. His family, though touched by sorrow, remains bound by the echoes of his gentle spirit. He is survived by his devoted father, his cherished sisters, Kayla Mathis, Erika Mathis, and April Erwin, each of whom shared in the quiet strength that defined him. His beloved mother, Lisa, and grandfather, Roger Mathis, preceded him in passing, their memories entwined with his own in eternity’s embrace.
A man of simple pleasures and deep affections, Haven found solace in the steadfast faith of the Baptist tradition, his heart ever tethered to the community of Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church. Though his voice was soft and his manner unassuming, his devotion spoke louder than words, manifesting in the care he poured into his grandparents and the quiet joy he found in life’s little wonders. Skateboarding carried him across the pavement of youth, PlayStation games bridged distances between friends, and the night sky, vast and infinite, beckoned his mind toward the mysteries of astronomy and physics.
A graduate of Armuchee High School’s Class of 2012, Haven pursued the intricate art of aviation mechanics at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, his mind drawn to the mechanics of flight and the boundless possibilities of the cosmos. In the hours between labor and leisure, he served as an equipment operator for Lowe’s Distribution Center, a steady hand in a world ever in motion.
Though his years on this earth were but a fleeting whisper, Haven’s presence was deeply felt, and his absence will be profoundly mourned. In the days to come, his family will share details for those who wish to honor a life that, though quiet, resonated with the beauty of constancy, love, and unspoken depth.
