Ethel Lovell Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Ethel Lorene Fricks Lovell

May 15, 1930 – January 25, 2025

The earthly journey of Ethel Lorene Fricks Lovell has drawn to its gentle close, and her spirit now soars to realms beyond sorrow and time. At the age of 94, she passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Silver Creek, Georgia. She was born on May 15, 1930, in the rolling hills of Floyd County, the cherished daughter of the late Earl and Ruby Fricks.

Ethel’s path was one of steadfast devotion; to faith, to family, to duty, and to the simple joys of life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Glennis Lovell, whose memory she held dear through the years, and by her cherished son, Donald G. Lovell, whom she longed to see again beyond the veil of time. Also awaiting her in eternity is her dear sister, Peggy J. Smith.

Yet, even as we mourn her passing, we give thanks for the loved ones she leaves behind. Her sister, Sarah Frances Bowman, remains to carry forward the legacy of sisterly love and shared memories. Many nieces and nephews, each touched by her kindness, hold fast to the stories she wove into their lives.

Ethel was a woman of quiet strength and unshakable faith. She found solace and joy in her service at the Methodist church and in attending Sunday School at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, she made numerous long lasting friendships. She loved the rhythmic hum of railroad tracks, the hushed reverence of a Sunday morning service, the weight of a well-worn book in her hands, the call of the open road, and the untamed beauty of the outdoors.

The eldest of three daughters, Ethel embraced both the weight of responsibility and the joy of companionship. As a military wife, she understood sacrifice, resilience, and the quiet pride of standing behind those who serve. She dedicated years of diligence to West Point Pepperell, where she worked until her well-earned retirement.

Her life will be honored and remembered in a Graveside service on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM Floyd Memory Gardens Cemetery. Chaplain Alan Fuller will offer words of comfort and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to pay tribute to Ethel’s life are invited to make a donation in her name to the American Heart Association, a cause befitting a woman whose heart beat with unwavering love and generosity.

Though she has laid down the burdens of this world, her soul has found its rest. And in the quiet rustling of the leaves, in the whisper of the wind along the railroad tracks she so adored, we shall hear the echoes of her presence and remember her well.
