Fred Thompson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Fred Dallas Thompson

July 27, 1943 – August 20, 2024

Fred Dallas Thompson, aged 81, of Rome, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 27, 1943, in Warsaw, Georgia, Fred was the cherished son of the late Rufus Dennis Thompson and the late Effie Amanda Sorrells Thompson.

Fred's life was one of devotion, hard work, and a deep love for his family and the great outdoors. He leaves behind his beloved wife of many years, Patricia Ann Thompson, who stood by his side through all of life’s seasons. He is also survived by his sons, James F. Lowery (Jennifer) and Scott D. Lowery (Amy), and his daughters, Tina Marie Thompson Rogers, and Stephanie Thompson. Fred’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Roxanne Thompson Allred, Stevie Thompson, Mary Lou Thompson Chapman, Greyson Lowery, Kimbree Lowery, Marlee Lowery, Gage Lowery, Kimberly Lindsey Wooten, Joshua Callahan, Dylan Fowler, Dustin Fowler, and Mathias Johnson, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry forward the values he instilled in them.

He is also survived by his brother, Homer S. Thompson, Sr. (Stephanie), and his sister Hazel Thompson Casey, who together shared countless memories of a life well-lived. Fred was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Ethel (Amy) Thompson Connelly; his brothers, Leroy Ryder, Edward Thompson, William Henry Thompson, and Harold Thompson; and his sisters, Edna Thompson Jones, Lucille Ryder Woodruff, Doris “Dot” Thompson Mask, Rosanel Thompson Lindsey Beck, and Dixie Thompson Snow. Each of these family members held a special place in Fred’s heart, and their reunion in the afterlife is surely a joyous one.

Fred retired from Church Chair Industries where he excelled in all his endeavors. He was a man of many passions, an avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in the simple pleasures of fishing and hunting. His love for nature was matched by his craftsmanship as a Class A woodworker, a skill that reflected both his patience and creativity. Fred’s sense of humor was legendary; he loved to joke and bring laughter to those around him. He also had a deep affection for old westerns and was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves. Known for his love of good food, Fred’s favorite meal was a hearty serving of chicken.

Above all, Fred was a man of faith. He was a proud member of Church of the Living God, and his spirituality was a guiding force throughout his life.
